Poverty and Crime in Memphis

Although Memphis may be regarded best for the barbeque and music, Memphis also is your home of high crime rates, poverty, and poor competition relations. Through the Civil Warfare, Memphis sided with the Confederates, but it was quickly captured by the Union who intentionally wanted the location as the sight of a naval backyard. The Union also manufactured Memphis a freedman's colony, and many neighboring black slaves came to Memphis once they had been emancipated to partake in education and paid out labor. Memphis fell thus easily to the Union that a lot of of their infrastructure remained in place. For a brief second, Memphis became a city of opportunity to black Americans and a place wherever black neighborhoods thrived. Yet as white Memphians noticed themselves competitive with ex - slaves, stress ran high resulting in competition riots.
