Examining the structure and style of Betty Rollin’s composition Motherhood.

In the article " Motherhood: Who Requires It? " Betty Rollins does not utilize the most effective framework and style to dispute against what she thinks is the " motherhood myth" (203). Rollins opposes the idea that having children is a thing that all girls should need, and have to do instinctively. She feels that women are experiencing babies for all the wrong causes, and efforts to set a couple of things straight about motherhood itself. Though her disagreement may be passionate, the organization, diction, and overall tone in the essay tend not to seem to be the most efficient on her behalf cause.

Rollin uses a extremely ineffectual style for this particular essay. The girl addresses what seems to be a significant issue with her, in a rather informal, unserious way. The girl begins the 2nd paragraph while using statement, " The notion the maternal wish and the activity of mothering are instinctive or perhaps biologically predestined is baloney" (203). This kind of develops a contradictory experience to the piece. Rollin uses the word " baloney", and also other slang, which provides the composition a more comical sarcastic ambiance. This casual diction confuses the reader. Her tone is also very sarcastic and impolite, creating a somewhat hostile environment. Littering the reality she is trying to get across with sarcastic feedback pulls you away from the actual information. To do so , Rollin weakens her argument drastically.

The organization of " Motherhood: Who demands It? " is also inadequate. Rollin gets constantly from point to the next making it hard for someone to keep up. Your woman does not give attention to an individual disagreement without interrupting it in some manner, sometimes with witty remarks, or even abnormal quotes. Her support becomes very unnecessary, and it is easy to get lost in all of the repeated details, losing sight of the actual argument.
